Chamundi Hills is named after Goddess Chamundeshwari, the fierce form of Durga who slew the demon Mahishasura here. According to legend, the goddess descended on this hill and vanquished the buffalo‑headed demon, giving the city its name – Mysore (Mahishasura Ooru). The temple was patronised by the Wadiyar kings and its impressive Gopuram (tower) was built in 1827 by Krishnaraja Wadiyar III. A majestic statue of Mahishasura and a beautiful view point adorn the summit. Whether you come for blessings, the climb, or the scenery, Chamundi Hills offers a deeply spiritual and cultural experience.
